Voicetest Request!

HI! Please help me voicetest Yona here. Need a starter? I'VE GOTCHA SOME. Please feel free to assume any role in any of these scenarios / to AU non-castmates in OR if you're not canon familiar feel free to offer/suggest something else completely (AUs and tfln and anything in between a-okay too, I just wanted to try original flavor first to get my best feel for her). Action/not, gen or shippy stuff, it's all good.

1. You come back from an evening hunt to find the camp is under siege. There are bandits everywhere, going through the tents, ripping through everyone's belongings. What will you do?

2. You've arrived at a port town in the midst of some kind of celebration. The smells of delicious cooking food make your stomach rumble and the sound of live instruments and laughter is interspersed with fireworks going off. You technically have a goal beyond this town, but... would it be so bad to take a break and play?

3. You find yourself alone with Yona, having been cut off from the rest of the group after making a harrowing escape from enemies. You're too tired (and perhaps too injured) to try to go find the rest of your traveling companions, and it's getting dark out anyway. You should probably go ahead and try to find a place to hide and hunker down for the rest of the night...

[whatever happened, it had fallen to him to get Yona the fuck out of that sticky situation while the others held off their attackers. he hates it, and she hates it, but they have to trust that their companions will be okay without them, because letting Yona get caught like this is not an option. at all.

he's running out of energy to keep jumping them away, though, and each landing gets sketchier and sketchier as night falls in thick woods in unfamiliar territory. eventually, they're dropping to a thick tree branch and just. staying there, as he catches his breath.]

[ Yona has been silent and still up until this moment. She knows, of course, that she can't get caught. Not without it hurting too many people. But she hates it, all the same, that of all of them she was, yet again, unable to help them during the fray or the escape.

They'll be okay. They're strong. Much stronger than she is! But even so, she can't help the knot of worry that's tangled in her chest and back.

Her worry is interrupted by Jae ha's abrupt landing on a tree branch. His face is pale and a bit sweaty, and his breathing is coming too harshly. The snag in her chest twists a little deeper. ]

Jae ha? Are you all right?

[ She reaches out to feel his forehead. They haven't gone so far from the capital that he's managed to make himself sick, has he? ]

[they're far enough away from the capital that he's subtly worn around the edges, every little thing just a bit harder than it really should be, but he's not sick at least. just... exhausted, and unsure, and stressed. but he gives her one of his smooth smiles, catching her wrist gently in a hand.]

Don't worry about me, Yona dear. I'm surprisingly sturdy, for a man of my looks. But it's getting dark, and we wouldn't want you to catch a chill on the night wind, so we should find shelter.

[ She doubts that she'd be the one to get sick, given the circumstances, but she nods her head in agreement, dropping her hand back to her side. If she needs to make the official reason for "her sake" in order to get him taken care of, then sobeit. ]

We should be far away enough now that we're not in immediate danger anymore. We haven't eaten anything... and they'll surely be looking for us again after daybreak, so we should get some sleep. Should I go ahead and climb down myself?

[ She's already moving to do so, in either case. ]

[Shin-Ah, for one, isn't going to object to taking a break. If that's what Yona and the others want to do, it's fine. And he's never one to say no to food. So when one of the festival vendors offers him some dango he accepts it easily, quietly taking two skewers before catching up.]

Yona.

[He speaks to get her attention. When she turns she'll find him holding a stick of dango out to her.]

[ Yona has not necessarily agreed to this vacation for her own sake. Oh, she doesn't mind telling them that she wants to have fun, and indeed, she is enjoying herself. As Princess, she had always watched and listened to the capital city's distant celebrations from the muted sanctuary of her bedroom window, alone. But more than for herself, she wanted to stop for her Dragon Warriors who had more than earned some respite for all their help. It seemed like a particularly good opportunity for Shin-ha, who had probably never gotten to join his own village in play, either.

Speaking of whom--the sound of Shin-ah's soft and not oft-used voice speaking her name brings her attention back from the fireworks exploding in the sky. ]

Is that for me?

[ Seeing that there is an identical stick in his other fist, she reaches out to accept it. ]

Thank you, Shin-Ah.

[He nods as she takes the stick, glad that she's accepting it. He doesn't have much experience with festivals or the food they offer, but he's also really not picky about it. It's hard to be particular about food when you're an orphan and a social outcast. So he doesn't hesitate to take a bite of one of his own dumplings, even if he's not sure of the flavors.

But wow, hey, what do you know.

Festival food is really tasty.

[ Yona giggles. Shin-Ah may not ever feel like saying much, but do you really need words when you can see expressions like that? ]

I'm glad you like it.

[ She takes a bite from the seasoned meat on her own skewers, chews, and swallows. In the time that it takes her to do so, Ao manages to skitter down Shin-Ah's arm, onto his hand, and take a few nibbles as well. She giggles again. ]

I see Ao likes it as well!

[He nods, maybe a little more emphatically than usual, and takes another bite. Time to chow down. Though he lets Ao have some, too, of course.

He looks around as he swallows his last bite, wondering if all the food here is as good as this was.]

[ She sees the way he's looking around the market stalls. ]

You're still hungry, right?

[ It's not surprising. Even she needs a lot to eat from traveling, and all of the men--well, they need even more than her. There's more of them, after all. ]

Here. Let's go find some more food.

[ She reaches out and grasps his larger hand in her own and pulls him in the direction of the smell of roasting meat and corn. The other Dragon Warriors, Hak, and Yoon don't seem to notice that they're separating from the group at the moment, being too busy with a small, teasing spat among themselves.... so they'll have a few moments with just one another, probably, unless the thick crowds make it impossible for the group to find them. ]

[Shin-Ah isn't one to demand anyone's undivided attention. He's just glad to have people who accept him and aren't afraid of him. But still, he's always happy to spend time with Yona.

He moves through the crowd with her, letting her take the lead while he keeps an eye out for any signs of danger. He does wonder, though, what kind of food she might be drawn to here. There's so much to choose from.]

[ She takes him to a stall selling bowls of chicken soup. After a short exchange with the man behind the stall, she exchanges a few coins from her purse for two bowls. ]

Here.

[ She offers one to Shin-Ah. A warm steam rises off milky wight broth inside which large pieces of cooked chicken, rice, and jujube can be seen floating. ]

I bet you've never had this before, have you? It's seasoned with garlic and ginseng and it's very good for you. Try it.

[It's true that he has never had this before. It looks and smells delicious, though. And he's not going to say no to food, especially food that Yona offers. So he immediately accepts the bowl and takes a big bite.

And it is super tasty so he just. Proceeds to gobble it up, ok, thank u Yona.]

[ Yona goes ahead and accepts her own bowl of soup from the vendor in the meantime. It's easy to tell that Shin-Ah is enjoying himself. ]

I'm glad you like it.

[ She dips her spoon into the broth and brings it up to her lips. She could eat it as fast as Shin-Ah, but--she doesn't, savoring the taste. ]

This was my favorite meal, growing up.

[ She didn't need to say that part, but... for some reason, she feels compelled to share it. ]

[He glances up from his bowl to Yona as he lets Ao eat up his last bit of chicken. Favorite foods aren’t something he’s ever had reason to think much about, but considering it now, he can see why someone would choose this as their favorite.]

It’s warm and...comforting.

It is. My father tried to make this for me once. It tasted bad, but... it was still comforting.

[ There is a complicated warmth in her chest as she remembers. The memory is still a beautiful and treasured one, but it hurts: that peace, the people that made it special... she'll never see them again. ]

[He nods in agreement. Not that he's ever thought to reject food just because of how it tastes, but he knows now what it's like to be offered food by someone who cares. He'd accept anything anyone from the group offered him, really. It's a nice feeling.

He watches her for a moment before speaking again.]

Yona, are you sad?

[ Ah it must have shown on her face, didn't it? She doesn't want to lie to Shin-Ah, although she wishes she hadn't let him see that. ]

A little, maybe. You don't need to worry about it, though.

Because the truth is that I'm very happy right now, to be able to be here as I am now.

[ And... if all of those horrible things hadn't happened... Her world would have never opened up, would it? If she had never been driven from the palace, she would have never met them. Shin-Ah would still be waiting by himself underground. Jae-ha might not have won his battle in Port Awa. Xeno would still be wandering alone. And even Kija would still be waiting for someone who would never come. ]

I may not have the things that comforted me before, but I do have all of you. And that's comfort enough.

[Yona shouldn’t feel too bad, really. Having his eyes means he’s extra observant, even about small things. And he wasn’t insulted by her seeming sad. Just concerned. It makes sense to be sad when you lose someone important.

He considers her words, though, and inclines his head.]

It’s...a double edged sword.

[She’s gained a lot, but she’s also lost a lot. It makes some sense to him.]

[ A double-edged sword? ]

Maybe something like that. But you know, the person that I was before couldn't hold a sword at all. Now I have the power to defend myself, at least some. I would take a life with scars over the alternative any day.

[shhhh, it makes sense to him.

Anyway, he listens to her words, tilting his head thoughtfully. He can see her point and understand. But now the question is how does one communicate both support and comfort.

Clearly the answer is to take Ao (who is now finished chowing down on leftover soup) and place her on Yona’s shoulder, tucking the little squirrel against her neck.

This is a good way to express friendship right? Yes, good. Nailed it.]

[ I mean, there are few ailments that a soft, fuzzy animal can't cure. Plus, she knows just how much Ao means to Shin-Ah; she was his companion for many lonely years, after all. She reaches up to pet Ao's head as the squirrel snuggles in closer on her neck. ]

When you're finished, do you want to try some more food? I think there must be roasted corn around here somewhere. I bet Ao would like that, too.

[ Not that Ao seems to dislike much. ]

[As soon as the words are out of her mouth he nods. Heck yeah, roasted corn sound delicious. He looks around, scanning the crowd for a moment before he spots a promising looking vendor.]

There.

[He points. It's a ways away, and she might not be able to see it at first, but with his eyes he was able to spot a stall that seems to be selling some corn.]

Really?

[ of course, Yona can't see the booth, even when she goes on her tiptoes. Then again, it IS crowded, and she doesn't have eyes like Shin-Ah does. ]

Well if you say it's there, I'm sure it is. Shall we go get some?

[Okay, looks like it's his turn to lead the way. He can do this. He carefully takes her hand and leads her through the crowd toward the booth with the corn.]

[ Yona follows his lead, keeping her free hand held up to Ao so that even as the thick crowds jostle him, the tiny animal won't be knocked from his place on her shoulder. Not that it's very bad, all considered: Shin-Ah's wider frame creates a path in which she has a little more room so long as she keeps up with him. It's not hard to do so, and before too long they've made it to the stall with roasted corn. ]

Thank you, Shin-Ah.

[ Although she was sheltered from the worst of the crowd, she could see (and feel, to some degree) that he was constantly being bumped into and shouldered as he made his way through the crowd. ]

[He inclines his head at the thank you. He's not really used to having to deal with crowds of people, but he didn't really mind. He's glad to be able to help.

When the vendor offers them the corn he takes one and gives it to Yona before taking another for himself.]

[ While Shin-Ah receives their food, Yona is busy paying the woman behind the stall. She then turns to accept her half of the ear of corn. At this point, she's starting to get full, but she's fairly certain that if she can't finish the food then with Ao or Shin-Ah will help her finish it off. ]

How is it?

[He nods enthusiastically as he chews a mouthful of corn. He likes!

...Not that he is the pickiest of eaters, but still.

It's delicious, ok.

Ao likes it too.]

[ Pickiness is definitely over-rated. She can't help but laugh. ]

That seems like a pretty strong endorsement!
